影片中的主人公克里斯·加德納,，因貧窮的生活使妻子落跑，只剩下一個人近中年的男人帶著兒子在大街上風(fēng)餐露宿,，為了讓兒子有正常的上學(xué)環(huán)境,。賣血、跑好幾條街尋找流浪漢——那人搶走只能給他換幾餐飯的醫(yī)療儀器,，但他從未放棄,，哪怕風(fēng)餐露宿，一路上克里斯經(jīng)歷了不少挫折,，但是年幼的兒子每次都能給予他最大的鼓勵,，兩父子相互扶持最終完成自己的夢想。（該影片改編自發(fā)生在獨立宣言后的真實故事）
