Kara?īyam-attha-kusalena
yanta? santa? pada? abhisamecca, 

This is to be done by one skilled in aims
Who wants to break through to the state of peace: 

Sakko ujū ca suhujū ca
suvaco cassa mudu anatimānī,

Be capable, upright, & straightforward,
Easy to instruct, gentle, & not conceited, 

Santussako ca subharo ca
appakicco ca sallahuka-vutti, 

Content & easy to support, with few duties, living lightly,

Santindriyo ca nipako ca
appagabbho kulesu ananugiddho. 

With peaceful faculties, masterful, modest, & no greed for supporters.

Na ca khudda? samācare ki?ci
yena vi??ū pare upavadeyyu?. 

Do not do the slightest thing that the wise would later censure.

Sukhino vā khemino hontu
sabbe sattā bhavantu sukhitattā. 

Think: Happy & secure, may all beings be happy at heart.

Ye keci pā?a-bhūtatthi
tasā vā thāvarā vā anavasesā, 

Whatever beings there may be, weak or strong, without exception,

Dīghā vā ye mahantā vā
majjhimā rassakā a?uka-thūlā,

Long, large, middling, short, subtle, blatant,

Di??hā vā ye ca adi??hā
ye ca dūre vasanti avidūre,

Seen or unseen, near or far,

Bhūtā vā sambhavesī vā
sabbe sattā bhavantu sukhitattā.

Born or seeking birth: May all beings be happy at heart.

Na paro para? nikubbetha
nātima??etha katthaci na? ki?ci,

Let no one deceive another or despise anyone anywhere,

Byārosanā pa?īgha-sa??ā
nā??am-a??assa dukkham-iccheyya.

Or through anger or resistance wish for another to suffer.

Mātā yathā niya? putta?
āyusā eka-puttam-anurakkhe,

As a mother would risk her life to protect her child, her only child,

Evam-pi sabba-bhūtesu
māna-sambhāvaye aparimā?a?.

Even so should one cultivate a limitless heart with regard to all beings.

Metta?ca sabba-lokasmi?
māna-sambhāvaye aparimā?a?,

With good will for the entire cosmos, cultivate a limitless heart:


Uddha? adho ca tiriya?ca
asambādha? avera? asapatta?. 

Above, below, & all around, unobstructed, without enmity or hate.

Ti??ha?'cara? nisinno vā
sayāno vā yāvatassa vigatam-iddho,

Whether standing, walking, sitting, or lying down,
as long as one is alert, 

Eta? sati? adhi??heyya
brahmam-eta? vihāra? idham-āhu.

One should be resolved on this mindfulness.
This is called a sublime abiding here & now. 

Di??hi?ca anupagamma
sīlavā dassanena sampanno,

Not taken with views, but virtuous & consummate in vision,


Kāmesu vineyya gedha?,
Na hi jātu gabbha-seyya? punaretīti.

Having subdued desire for sensual pleasures,
One never again will lie in the womb.


   欲獲得寂靜涅槃的善行者,應(yīng)如是修學(xué):堪能,、誠(chéng)懇及正直,,謙恭,、柔和與不慢。知足易供養(yǎng),,少世俗務(wù),,生活儉樸,諸根寂靜,,謹(jǐn)慎,、謙虛,不攀求于俗家,。不應(yīng)作任何違逆事,,免遭其他智者所譴責(zé)。

    (應(yīng)如是念言:)愿一切眾生皆幸福,、安穩(wěn),、快樂(lè)!若有生命者,,若強(qiáng)若弱,,若長(zhǎng)若斷,若大若小,,若粗若細(xì),,盡一切無(wú)余?;蚩梢?jiàn)或不可見(jiàn),,或遠(yuǎn)或近,或已生或未生,,愿一切眾生都快樂(lè),!

    不欺騙他人,或于一切處藐視任何人,,不應(yīng)出于憤怒及仇恨而詛咒,,希望他人痛苦。對(duì)一切眾生應(yīng)該修習(xí)無(wú)限慈愛(ài)心,,猶如慈母用生命保護(hù)自己唯一的兒子,。

    讓無(wú)限的慈心遍照十方世界,上,、下,、左、右,,不受阻繞,,不懷仇恨,不抱歉意,。無(wú)論站著,、走著,、坐著、躺著,,若不昏昧,,應(yīng)確立此念。能如是住者,,即云“梵住”,。不陷于邪見(jiàn),具有戒德,,具有智見(jiàn),,及斷諸貪欲,當(dāng)決不再入母胎,。

《慈經(jīng)》簡(jiǎn)釋

    《慈經(jīng)》經(jīng)文很短,,文字淺白,比較容易了解,。經(jīng)文一開(kāi)始:

     “欲獲得寂靜涅槃的善行者,,應(yīng)如是修學(xué):堪能、誠(chéng)懇及正直,,謙恭,、柔和與不慢。知足易供養(yǎng),,少世俗務(wù),,生活儉樸,諸根寂靜,,謹(jǐn)慎,、明智,不攀求于俗家,。不應(yīng)作任何違逆事,,免遭其他智者譴責(zé)?!?/span>

     以上經(jīng)文為慈心禪的(業(yè)處)近行,也就是一個(gè)修習(xí)慈心禪的人,,所修行的內(nèi)容是接近于慈愛(ài)以及處于慈愛(ài)之前,。

     接著,佛陀教導(dǎo)簡(jiǎn)要的慈心禪修法:

     愿一切眾生幸福,、安穩(wěn),、快樂(lè)!

     然后,,佛陀教導(dǎo)慈心禪的詳盡修法:

     愿一切凡夫,、有學(xué)者及阿羅漢,;

     一切見(jiàn)到的與沒(méi)有見(jiàn)到的眾生;

     一切住在遠(yuǎn)方的與近處的眾生,;

     一切已生的阿羅漢與還尋求業(yè),,以便再生的凡夫及有學(xué)者;

     一切長(zhǎng)的,、短的與中等的眾生,;

     一切大的、小的,、與中等眾生,;一切粗園的、微細(xì)的眾生內(nèi)心快樂(lè),、身體健康,!

     慈心禪,除了透過(guò)祝愿眾生快樂(lè)來(lái)修習(xí)外,,還有另外一種散播慈愛(ài)的方式,,就是祝愿眾生不傷害或不焦慮來(lái)修習(xí)慈心禪:

     愿他們不會(huì)輕視別人!

     愿他們不會(huì)互相希望對(duì)方痛苦,!

     一個(gè)禪修者,,對(duì)眾生的慈愛(ài)猶如母親對(duì)獨(dú)生子的那份慈愛(ài),是無(wú)限制,、無(wú)條件,、無(wú)量無(wú)邊的。

    當(dāng)禪修者,,培育無(wú)量無(wú)邊的慈愛(ài)之后,,就把無(wú)量的愛(ài)心散播到整個(gè)世界。

    無(wú)論禪修者采用任何姿勢(shì),,他都要保持慈念,,直到證得安止定。修習(xí)慈心禪只能證得安止定,,不能證悟道果,。因此,佛陀教導(dǎo)禪修者從慈愛(ài)再提升修行到成為圣者,。
