以下為本人參加第三十六屆翻譯大賽的漢譯英譯文，未能獲獎,。

當(dāng)我們紀(jì)念屈原時,，我們在紀(jì)念什么？

What Do We Truly Honor in Commemorating Qu Yuan?

屈原大夫提倡“美政”,，主張對內(nèi)修明法度,，對外聯(lián)齊抗秦，后遭貴族排擠,，被流放至沅湘流域,。但他像戰(zhàn)士一樣，堅守自我理想,，踐行君子之道,，絕不允許世俗的穢氣玷污自己高潔峻美的人格,，絕不允許一絲松懈與放棄出現(xiàn)在自己的生命意志中。

Qu Yuan, a Grand Master of the State of Chu in the Warring States Period, advocated the idea of “good governance” (mei zheng), emphasizing the establishment of clear and fair laws internally and the formation of a reliable alliance with the State of Qi externally to resist the aggressively expanding Qin. However, he was ostracized by the nobility and subsequently banished to the regions around the Yuan and Xiang rivers. Yet he remained steadfast like a warrior, adhering to his ideals and practicing the way of a true gentleman. He never allowed the corruption of the secular world to taint his lofty and noble character, nor did he permit any trace of slackness or surrender to infiltrate the resolve he had been upholding throughout his life.

屈原用自己的名字反映追求的道德標(biāo)準(zhǔn),。據(jù)《離騷》開篇，“父親把我的名取為正則,，把我的字叫作靈均,。”“正則”即正直,、正派,，恪守做人原則;“靈均”指聰穎、智慧,、公平,、公正。在《橘頌》中,，他又以橘樹的“獨立不遷”體現(xiàn)自己的人格情操:為了心中美好的理想,，絕不同流合污,，縱然死去也不后悔,。他仿佛生活在楚國的高空,，鳥瞰著世間紛紜的一切，心中洞明,，無能為力。

Qu Yuan’s name in itself was a perfect embodiment of the moral standards he held dear. As stated in the beginning lines of Li Sao (“On Encountering Sorrow”), “my father bestowed upon me the name Zhengze and the courtesy name Lingjun.” “Zhengze” in Chinese signifies integrity, uprightness, and the adherence to the principles of being a virtuous person, while “Lingjun” is a word to represent intelligence, wisdom, fairness, and justice. In Ode to the Orange Tree, he symbolized his integrity and sentiments through the upright and unwavering nature of the orange tree: for the noble ideals that he held dear to his heart, he would never compromise even if in the face of death for a thousand times. He seemed to dwell in the lofty skies of Chu, observing the tumultuous world below with clear insight while feeling powerless to effect change.

屈原的千古之志,，在于其文學(xué)作品和政治抱負(fù)無不站在人民的立場上。他的偉大之處,，在于始終懷著強(qiáng)烈的憂國憂民的悲憫之心,，始終懷著強(qiáng)烈的愛國之情。

Qu Yuan’s enduring legacy is rooted in his literary works and political aspirations, where he always put the interests of the people first. His greatness stemmed from his unwavering compassion for the nation and the people, coupled with a profound sense of patriotism.

他的事跡和作品之所以能和民眾日常生活結(jié)合在一起,，并成為一個重要傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日的主要紀(jì)念對象,，就是因為他的言行流露著對祖國、對人民,、對故土文化無限的愛,，其中深深蘊(yùn)藏著民族精神和文化的持久力量,?！皣鵁o人莫我知兮,，又何懷乎故都?”屈原亦曾考慮過“何不去國”的問題，但他最終沒有去國遠(yuǎn)游,，這正體現(xiàn)了他對精神和文化的堅守,。

Qu Yuan’s stories and works created a profound impact on the daily lives of the people, and he himself has long become a central figure commemorated at an important traditional Chinese festival. What makes all this happen is his infinite love for his country, his fellow people, and the culture of his homeland, embodying the enduring strength in the spirit and culture of our nation. “In a land where no one understands me, why should I care for the capital of such a kingdom?” Indeed, Qu Yuan had pondered upon the question of “why not leave the disappointing court and state”, yet ultimately he chose not to embark on distant travels — a true reflection of his steadfast devotion to his spiritual pursuits and adherence to the culture.

而今，每逢端午節(jié),，中國各地都突出祭祀屈原的主題，歌頌屈原正道直行,、愛國愛民的精神,，通過講述端午節(jié)與屈原的故事、開展詩詞吟誦和進(jìn)行賽龍舟等活動,，引領(lǐng)公眾學(xué)習(xí)傳統(tǒng)文化,，厚植家國情懷。

Today, when people observe the Duanwu Festival (also known as the Dragon Boat Festival), regions across China prominently highlight the theme of commemorating Qu Yuan, praising his unwavering commitment to righteousness and patriotism, as well as his deep love for the country and the people. By narrating the tales related to the festival and Qu Yuan, reciting poetry, and participating in activities like dragon boat races, people are encouraged to better explore the charms of our traditional culture, thus nurturing a profound sense of patriotism and cultural pride among them.

今天我們紀(jì)念屈原,，是紀(jì)念屈原代表的傳統(tǒng)中國士人直面生死,、敢向未知勇猛叩擊的“天問”精神。在長詩《天問》中,，屈原從天地離分,、陰陽變化、日月星辰等自然現(xiàn)象,，直問到神話傳說乃至圣賢兇頑和治亂興衰的歷史故事,，并從設(shè)問中表達(dá)自己的宇宙觀念、歷史觀念和政治主張,。不唯書,，只唯實，敢于懷疑,，敢于批判,，這樣的探索精神令人嘆服。

Today, as we commemorate Qu Yuan, we pay tribute to the ethos of traditional Chinese intellectuals he embodies—confronting the issue of life or death head-on and bravely probing the unknown with the dauntless spirit of “Questioning the Heaven” or “Tianwen”. In his epic poem Questions to Heaven (Tianwen), Qu Yuan begins with the separation of heaven and earth, the changes between yin and yang, and the natural phenomena of the sun, the moon, and stars. He then delves into mythological legends and historical tales of sages and sinners, reflecting on themes of chaos and order, rise and fall. Through these inquiries, he intends to articulate his own views on cosmology, history, and political ideology. His exploratory spirit evokes profound admiration as he was unbound by the confines of book, but dedicated to seeking truth in real life, daring to subject all things to critical scrutiny.

中國行星探測任務(wù)名為“天問”,，實際上表現(xiàn)了中國人對既有傳統(tǒng)觀念的批判精神和對科學(xué)真理的探索精神,。沒有對舊有觀念的批判，就難以產(chǎn)生新的科學(xué)思想,?！短靻枴方o今人的啟示，不僅是要懷疑傳統(tǒng)的偏見和凝固的史觀,，更要在不斷的批判和追問中,，尋求思想突破和科技創(chuàng)新。

The fact the Chinese planetary exploration mission is named “Tianwen” actually embodies the Chinese people’s critical examination of traditional beliefs and their ceaseless quest for truth. With the absence of criticism on established notions, it might be impossible for new scientific thoughts to come into being. The inspiration modern people can draw from Tianwen is not only to question traditional biases and entrenched historical views, but also to seek intellectual breakthroughs and technological innovations through continuous criticism and inquiry.

“屈原”作為一種精神符號對中華民族共同體意識的構(gòu)建,，從過去到現(xiàn)在以至未來都發(fā)揮著非比尋常的作用,。倘若沒有屈原這樣一位偉大的先賢,，那么整個中國士人群體勢必會缺少一種精神的力量，而中國歷史也會失掉不少悲壯的色彩,。

“Qu Yuan”, as a spiritual symbol, plays an extraordinary role in nurturing the sense of the Chinese nation as one united community, from the past to the present and surely into the future. Without such a great sage as Qu Yuan, the entire community of Chinese intellectuals would inevitably be lacking in a certain spiritual strength, and Chinese history be deprived of much of its heroic essence.

文明弦歌終不絕,，屈子精神永流傳。守正不守舊,，尊古不復(fù)古,，這是我們對傳統(tǒng)文化充滿自信的表達(dá)。

The symphony of civilization shall never subside, and the spirit of Qu Yuan shall forever resonate. We will preserve the core essence of our culture without clinging to the outdated, honoring the past without dwelling upon it—this mirrors our proud identification with the glorious cultural past.
