Suzhou is one important city where
many temples have been
gathering not only in old times but also
currently. Hanshan temple(寒山寺) is one of the most
famous temples, but I would like to introduce another local people
favorite temple - West Garden temple(西園寺).
The West Garden
was named because it was located
at the
western of Lingering
Garden(留園), which is
one of the most
famous top 4 gardens of
China. It has two different
styled parts combining a normal temple and
a typical garden.
The most impression of the West Garden
temple is 500 arhats(羅漢) besides
usual Buddha and Bodhisattva, each of which is remarkably true to
life. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos because it would not
be respectable to do that in the front of Buddha or arhats.
There are always some big trees in the ancient temples and the
West Garden temple is not exceptional. We calm
down suddenly when we enter
into the temple
with such
tranquil environment.
The garden is just at the back of the temple, which is similar
other classical gardens of Suzhou. Basic 4 garden
elements including pond, stones, trees and buildings are well
designed, organized and constructed.
Many turtles are enjoying peaceful their lives in the pond. They
don't be afraid of tourists at all.
