?The building completes the elevationpattern of alternating medium and high rise buildings along 40th Street. Itcomprises 31 storeys above the ground floor level; a hotel extends up to the13th floor, while private residences occupy all floors above. Each storey is defined by polished precast concrete slab elementswhich sit above full-height polished precast concrete columns. The columns areset at a wider rhythm on the north and south fa?ades than the east and westfa?ades. The tectonic arrangement of these stacked elements forms the materialidentity of the building and refers to the classical orders of neighbouringbuildings. The concrete mix used for the fa?ade elements contains a combinationof different natural stone materials used on the historic landmark buildings inthe surrounding area, and offers a modern interpretation of natural stone as afa?ade material. The anodised aluminium window frames, glazing elements andbalustrades complete the building enclosure and add a finer layer of detailingto the building.
