Passive Voice or Adjective In this sentence “dandelion flowers were fully bloomed”, why is the verb in passive voice? Actually “bloomed” here is not a verb, but an adjective. The verb “were” is a linking verb connecting the adjective “bloomed” to the noun phrase “dandelion flowers” (subject of the sentence). It tells people the “dandelion flowers” were “bloomed”. (Note: “Fully” here is an adverb telling the “bloomed” situation is “fully”, and not halfway or partially.) Another way of writing “was fully bloomed”: is “was in full bloom” where “in full bloom” is an adjective phrase (also known as a prepositional phrase).
