【作者簡介】

歐內斯特·米勒爾·海明威（Ernest Miller Hemingway,，1899年7月21日－1961年7月2日）,，美國小說家,、諾貝爾文學獎獲得者。1899年7月21日生于芝加哥市郊橡膠園小鎮(zhèn),。1926年出版了長篇小說《太陽照常升起》,，初獲成功，被斯坦因稱為“迷惘的一代”,。1929年,，反映第一次世界大戰(zhàn)的長篇巨著《永別了,，武器》的問世給作家?guī)砹寺曌u。30年代初,，海明威到非洲旅行和狩獵,。1935年寫成《非洲的青山》和一些短篇小說。1937年發(fā)表了描寫美國與古巴之間海上走私活動的小說《有錢人和沒錢人》,。西班牙內戰(zhàn)期間,，他3次以記者身份親臨前線，在炮火中寫了劇本《第五縱隊》,，并創(chuàng)作了以美國人參加西班牙人民反法西斯戰(zhàn)爭為題材的長篇小說《喪鐘為誰而鳴》（1940）,。他曾與許多美國知名作家和學者捐款支援西班牙人民正義斗爭。1941年偕夫人瑪莎訪問中國,，支持我國抗日戰(zhàn)爭,。后又以戰(zhàn)地記者身份重赴歐洲，并多次參加戰(zhàn)斗,。戰(zhàn)后客居古巴,，潛心寫作。1952年,，《老人與?！穯柺溃钍芎迷u,，翌年獲普利策獎,。1954年獲諾貝爾文學獎?？ㄋ固亓_掌權后,，他離開古巴返美定居。因身上多處舊傷,，百病纏身,，精神憂郁，1961年7月2日用獵槍自殺,。海明威去世后發(fā)表的遺作,，主要有：《島在灣流中》（1970）和《伊甸園》（1986）。

An hour later he sighted the first shark.It was a fierce Mako,and it came in fast to slash with raking teeth at the dead marlin.With failing might the old man struck the shark with his harpoon.The Mako rolled and sank,carrying the harpoon with it and leaving the marlin mutilated and bloody.

When the third appeared,he thrust at it with the knife,only to feel the blade snap as the fish rolled.

But the old man thought only of his steering and his great tiredness.He had gone out too far and the sharks had beaten him.He knew they would leave him nothing but the stripped skeleton of his great catch.
