General information
On 30 September 1999 the EuroLoader was presented at the 8th EuroCableLabs TC meeting in Brussels. The general information about this project given by Mr. Mühlethaler is available as a PDF-document.

The problem:

System software updates for user devices become more and more interesting caused by the introduction of digital services
System software loaders are available in terms of proprietary solutions which often vary due to different types of user devices of one manufacturer
Updates are carried out by manufacturers and service providers in many cases => network operators cannot control the operating software of the user devices
Compatibility is not guaranteed if a device purchased in the retail market is connected to another cable network
The solution:
Introduction of a common loader mechanism which can be used for all types of user devices: we call it the EuroLoader

Characteristics of the EuroLoader:

Resident software in user devices (STB, cable modem, etc.) which can neither be deleted nor overwritten
Algorithm based on standardized mechanism such as the DSM-CC data carousel
Support of download of a complete API or of individual elements such as drivers
Cable operators are able to operate independently from manufacturers and service operators because they control the user terminals
Detailed technical specification is available and is currently specified via DVB
High security is guaranteed by encryption (RSA - 1024 bit)
Many manufacturers and operators are highly interested
It is commercially used in the field already
